High Performance Manager Hurricanes Super Rugby NZ 2014-18

ABOUT
Since founding Flagship Management in 2005, I have operated for a small but cherished group of players, helping them on their rugby journey from first academy contract to retirement planning. I provide a personalised service helping the players achieve their true potential on the field.
PEOPLE
Crispin Read

As the founder, director and player representative for Flagship Management Ltd, players represented by Flagship only deal with me.
My lifelong association with rugby began at Westcombe Park RFC where my dad started the mini rugby and mum did the teas. As a result, my dealings with professionals at the top end of the sport are underpinned by my respect for the game and for the human qualities it instils and demands.
A scrum-half for England U-19s, U-23s, Students, plus Kent in the 1986 County Championship final at Twickenham, I also played at Blackheath, Plymouth Albion, Bristol and Aspen (Colorado). Representative rugby for London Division, South West Division, England Students and the Royal Navy then followed. As well as graduating with a degree in Business Studies (BA Hons) at Plymouth in 1988, I’m also a Level 2 coach with 10 years’ experience and have been a county and regional selector.
In 1990 I joined the Navy where I was paid to travel the world and taught to fly Sea King helicopters. But my luck had to run out eventually, and the rugby and flying careers were both curtailed by a persistent shoulder injury.
Bruno Xamma
European partner
Bruno and I have been friends, teammates and business associates for over 30 years. One of the most highly regarded agents in the business, Bruno is responsible for the contracts of some of the most high-profile players in Europe over the last 20 years, including Justin Marshall, Martin Castrogiovanni, Gavin Henson, Richard Cockerill and many more.
WHY FLAGSHIP
Through Flagship’s years of involvement within rugby I have forged solid links with DORs and coaches and have an affinity with the players. I have been instrumental in helping many players graduate from the Championship to the Premiership and I currently represent a select group of high-quality players throughout the top-two tiers of professional rugby.
KEEP IT FOCUSED
Rugby is the focus: Flagship is not an event organiser, brand awareness consultant or life-coaching advisor. I only work with rugby players and concentrate all of my energy on helping players choose the correct path. As I have learnt from 15 years in the business, get the rugby right and the rewards will follow.
KEEP IT SMALL
I have resisted the temptation to significantly increase the player base or take on extra staff, thus retaining that personal interaction with the players. This allows me to act free from financial pressures brought on by overheads, meaning players and clubs know that integrity will never be compromised by the need to balance the books. I am free to do what is right for the player, not for the company.
KEEP IT PERSONAL
After agreeing to work with a player, I am on hand throughout their rugby career. Players need someone with time, knowledge and no agenda to help guide them through. There will be highs and lows, success and failure, but there won’t be any change in the service the player receives from me, and no bullshit.
